Bamboo as Sustainable Material

Nowadays, people are in search for the most sustainable material. May it be for building or every day use, there are many materials to choose from. Wood for example is proving to be not so sustainable, with the age of trees taking tens to hundreds of years to grow. There is now an alternative material proving to be more sustainable which is bamboo. This material is able to grow almost anywhere and in any climate condition. The rate of growth for bamboo is roughly 3-5 years, which is well under 10 years. It is considered a type of grass, which enables it to easily be seeded and planted. It also continues to grow after its harvest so it is easy to maintain. Bamboo could be reserved by giving it several chemicals, or traditional way is to bury it in mud for a couple of weeks. There is also a method for laminating bamboo which also helps to preserve it. By using bamboo as an alternative material, it could help with the environment by reducing the use of wood and other materials. Because bamboo is a natural material, that makes it biodegradable as well. Besides for construction in building facades, or flooring, bamboo now also is used for various things such as furniture and toothbrushes.
