Marina Barrage

A water pumping station is usually seen as a utilities building that is not accessible. In Singapore however, they have built a unique water station for the Marina Bay Area. This is the Marina Barrage, which is a water pumping station located south of the Gardens by the Bay. The building itself has the large water pumping machine on the base, with outdoor facilities built along it such as water fountains and bicycle lanes. One of the most unique features is its sloping green roof, which loops around the top of the building. This creates a unique space at the edge of Singapore, that has a nice climate and sea wind. The roof is usually used for picnics, as well as kite flying for the local communities living in the area. Mixed-use buildings like this bring a sustainable lifestyle to its community, by providing more public space and uses.
