Expandable House

A house that can expand through the years? A concept of sustainable living has been created by Future Cities Laboratory Singapore. The core idea is to build the smallest footprint for living that can be then expandable throughout the years. It is a part of the Tropical Town concept. The house itself is a 36m2 house built on 60m2 land. Designed with solar panels to give energy to the house, as well as rainwater harvesting from the roof, the house is design to be self sustaining to some extent. The construction is created modular, with the ability to raise the rooftop and add stories to the house up to 3 stories if needed. The town itself is designed in a 1 hectare square of land that can hold up to 100 houses of the expandable house concept. Each hectare consists of a green strip, public space for a decentralized rainwater collection, with firetruck accessibility and pedestrian walkability in mind. This design is meant for peri-urban areas in developing tropical countries.
